听力原文: A young man who lived in London was in love with a beautiful girl. Soon she became his fiancee. The man was very poor while the girl was rich. The young man wanted to give her a present on her birthday. He wanted to buy something beautiful for her, but he had no idea how to do it, as he had very little money. The next morning he went to a shop. There were many fine things there: rings, gold watches, diamonds—but all these things were too expensive. There was one thing he could not take his eyes off, it was a beautiful vase. That was a suitable present for his fiancee. He had been looking at the vase for half an hour when the manager of the shop noticed him. The young man looked so pale, sad and unhappy that the manager asked what had happened to him.

The young man told him everything. The manager felt sorry for him and decided to help him. A brilliant idea struck him. The manager pointed to the comer of the shop. To his great surprise the young man saw a vase broken into many pieces. The manager said, "I can help you. I shall order my servant to pack it and take it to your fiancee. When he enters the room, he will drop it."

On the birthday of his fiancee the young man was very excited. Everything happened as had been planned. The servant brought in the vase, and as he entered the room, he dropped it. There was horror on everybody's face. However, when the vase was unpacked the guests saw that each piece was packed separately.

听力原文: Hollywood produces many different kinds of films, including mysteries, musicals, love stories, and horror films. As different as these films may be, they generally have one thing in common conflict. The main character wants something very badly and will do anything to get it. The opponent tries to stop the main character from achieving his goal. This opposition creates conflict, and conflict is the heart of drama. To give an example, let's say the main character is a young man of humble origin who wants to marry the beautiful daughter of a rich banker. The father thinks the young man is unworthy of his daughter, and he does not allow her to see him. The young man, who's very much in love, refuses to give up without a fight. The conflict between the young man and the girl's father is what makes the story interesting; it forces the main character to take action, and through their actions we see them as they actually are. In a good story, the main character changes he is not the same at the end of the story as he was at the beginning. He learns something from his experiences that make him a different, perhaps batter person. And we learn something from watching him. Good movies not only entertain us, they also help us understand a little more about life.

(23)

A.Love.

B.Violence.

C.Conflict.

D.Mystery.

听力原文: Many years ago, there lived a poor man who had only one son. One day, there was no more money or food left in I the house, so the man said," My son, you must go to find some work and earn some money."

The young man left home. He walked many miles until he met a rich farmer who had thousands of sheep. This farmer needed a shepherd to look after his sheep so he gave the young man the job.

There were seven mountains around the farm, and there were sheep in every field on every mountain. One day, black clouds gathered. A storm began. The wind tore off branches and blew down mighty trees. The rain poured down. Paths and bridges were washed away.

The young man rushed around and gathered the sheep from the seven hillsides to lead them to shelter in the farm. He had almost reached the farm with his enormous flock when he saw that the bridge over the last stream had been washed away. There was only a wooden plank left.

It was only safe for the sheep to walk across the plank one at a time. They did not like the look of the narrow, creaky piece of wood, but the shepherd pushed a big black sheep across and the rest started to follow, one at a time, one at a time.

What happened next? I'll tell you when all the sheep are safely across the plank. At the moment they axe still going over, one at a time, one at a time, one at a time.

Have all the sheep crossed over the bridge yet? Oh dear me, no. The young man saved thousands of sheep from the mountains and fields. They all have to get across that shaky plank, and they are still crossing, one at a time, one at a time. When will the last sheep have crossed? You may well ask. The answer is, they will all have crossed when every sheep is on the other side! But just now, they are still walking over, one at a time, one at a time.

And what about the young man? Well, he is still waiting, and watching those sheep crossing the plank, one at a time.

One at a time, one at a time.

第7题

听力原文:The Greek philosopher Socrates taught "the man who is master of himself is truly
free". By being master of oneself he meant first knowing oneself, one's faults and weak nesses and one's good points, without making any pretence, and then being able to control oneself. This knowledge of himself was what helped a man to be courageous, and the courageous man has a very important sort of freedom: freedom from fear.

Socrates himself always felt free to teach what he thought was right; however, this might make him unpopular with the powerful people in Athens. Some of the rulers in Athens did not like people to be encouraged to ask too many questions; they feared that people would begin asking questions about what their rulers were doing. So they accused Socrates of teaching young men evil things. At last they had him arrested and sentenced him to death. During the 30 days that lay between Socrates' trial and execution, his friends and pupils were allowed to spend a great deal of time with him in his prison. They were astonished to find that he was calm and cheerful and seemed to have no fear of dying. He talked to them and taught them just as he used to in the streets and market places of the city.

The Greeks' way of executing people was to make them drink a cup of deadly poison. When the poison was brought to Socrates, his friends were in tears, but Socrates took the cup quietly and drank it as if it were a glass of wine at a banquet.

(33)

A.A man w. ho is courageous.

B.A man who knows his faults.

C.A man who knows his weakness.

D.A man who has a clear knowledge of himself.

听力原文: As the offspring of a man and woman who are barely 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet tall respectively, you can probably guess how I made out in the way of stature.

With the exception of a short stint of towering over my third-grade class at a height of about 4 feet 6 inches, I've always looked up-literally-to, well, pretty much everyone. Shorty, Halfpint, Shortstack, Little One, Vertically Challenged and (my personal favorite) Ankle Biter are just a few of the endearing monikers that have been repeatedly seared into my memory over the years. I've also been likened much more often to Maggie rather than Lisa Simpson, even now that I'm nearly 20 years old.

But growing older has taught me that nicknames and cheap shots are the very least of my worries. Now I have real problems, like not being able to drive my car a safe distance from the steering wheel without pedal extensions. Seeing over the hood is even a bit of a challenge at times.

Inconveniences have been a part of every job I had in high school. From juggling large stacks of ice cream cones while trying to fill the cone racks at Dairy Queen to begging for assistance in filling ice machines while working at a movie theater, I've had to count on someone pushing 6 feet tall to come to my rescue.

Like many college students, I, too, love music. At concerts, I can usually be seen jumping up and down sporadically to the beat of a good rock song. But, unlike many college students, I do this because otherwise the concert would be no more exciting than listening to the radio in a large group of sweating, wriggling, bellowing young enthusiasts.
