听力原文: Internet use appears to cause a decline in psychological well-being, according to research at Carnegie Mellon University.

Even people who spent just a few hour's a week on the Internet experienced more depression and loneliness than those who logged on less frequently, the two-year study showed. And it wasn't that people who were already feeling bad spent more time on the Internet, but that using the Net actually appeared to cause the bad feelings.

Researchers are puzzling over the results, which were completely contrary to their expectations. They expected that the Net would prove socially healthier than television, since the Net allows users to choose their information and to communicate with others.

The fact that Internet use reduces time available for family and friends may account for the drop in well-being, researchers hypothesized.

Faceless, bodiless "virtual" communication may be less psychologically satisfying than actual conversation, and the relationships formed through it may be shallower. Another possibility is that exposure to the wider world via the Net makes users less satisfied with their lives.

"But it's important to remember this is not about the technology; it's about how it is used," says psychologist Christine Riley of Intel, one of the study's sponsors. "It really points to the need for considering social factors in terms of how you design applications and services for technology."

(33)

A.People who feel bad spent more time on the Internet.

B.Using internet can cause depression and loneliness.

C.Internet use can improve psychological well-being.

D.Surfing Net for a few hours a week cannot cause bad feelings.

听力原文:W: Dr. Smith, thank you for coming to our program.

M: My pleasure.

W. When you said that the Internet is causing a decline in psychological well-being, what do you mean by that?

M: Well, psychologically, people are getting more depression and loneliness than before, especially for those who spend long time on the Internet.

W: So if people spend just a few hours a week on the Internet, they would not have the bad feeling then?

M: Not really. (22)Actually, it's not the long time on the Net that causes them feel bad but the state of being on the Net does.

W: But you said you had much brighter expectations at first.

M: Yes, (23) we supposed that the Net would prove to be socially healthier than television, since the Net allows users to choose their information and to communicate with others.

W: Then, why did the result turn to be completely contrary to your expectations?

M: Well, people on the Net do have more "virtual" communication, but (24)this kind of faceless and bodiless communication is less psychologically satisfying than actual conversation. And they reduce their time being with family and friends. Another possibility is that exposure to the wider world via the Net makes users less satisfied with their lives.

W: The Internet should be found guilty of this phenomenon, right?

M: I don't think so. (25) It's not about the technology; it's about how it is used. It really points to the need for considering social factors in terms of how you design applications and services for technology.

听力原文:M: What do you think of the campus Network?

W: I think it still needs further improvements; it was only set up a few months ago.

M: I think it's a fantastic idea to have every department's computers connected. But it's a pity you can only access the China Education and Research Network within the campus Network. You can't visit some domestic websites, not to mention the international ones.

W: You are right. But with your own desktop and a modem, you won't have this problem.

M: Then you will have another problem. The connection speed sometimes slows to a trickle and it really puts users in a pickle.

W: Come on, you have to face it, the number of netizens, I mean, the Internet surfers, is growing so fast in China. There is good news, though. Some telecom departments have started increasing the bandwidth of Internet connection, so the transmission is expected to speed up at the end of this year.

M: Wow, I think it's not only good news for the average Internet surfer, but also wonderful for online education in China.

W: Yeah, with online education, the long-distance education in China will expand a lot. Students, used to studying radio or television programs, now can have another alternative.

M: For many people who can not study on a fixed schedule, online education should suit them best.

W: Oh, sure. Online education gives students enough flexibility, and what's more important, their studies are entirely interactive. You turn in your homework and then get the teacher's comments in no time.

M: I hope China can set up more net colleges; anyone who can not study in a traditional college can thus have access to higher education.

W: It's not a hope but already reality now. That's why some people say the Internet is an equalizer. It allows people access information more readily, thus narrowing the gap between the haves and the have nots.

听力原文: (29)A student credit card? Is it right for me, and can it help me pay for expenses online such as online courses, music, language-learning materials, or even a degree?

Actually, the answer might be yes or no, depending on your circumstances. Of course, probably the best advice is to save up and then make purchases with cash. Unfortunately, different online services often require a credit card. Here are some. ideas to getting a credit card. First of all, obtaining a student credit card is becoming easier, and many companies are offering such cards to students in this growing market. From a student's perspective, it allows a person to pay for things online that only can be purchased on credit. (30)Furthermore, it can help students build a good credit history that is often needed later for bigger purchases like a car or home.

Inspite of these advantages, students have to be careful because interest rates on such cards are often higher and have higher penalties if you fail to pay on time. Furthermore, students may spend well beyond their means and end up in debt that they can't pay off.

Perhaps a happy medium is for students to get a debit card that has a credit limit, and money for purchases is just deducted from existing funds from a student's account. Thus, it operates like a checking account, and (31)when the student's spending reaches the credit limit, they can't continue to spend.

Before you decide to get a student credit card, look carefully at the agreement terms for each company and compare the advantages and disadvantages of each. Searching the Internet for such offers will give you a good start on what to look for in a company.

(30)

A.Money.

B.Credit.

C.Debit card.

D.Credit card.

We have a crisis on our hands. You mean global warming? The world economy? No, the decline
of reading. People are just not doing it anymore, especially the young. Who's responsible? Actually, it's more like, What is responsible? The internet, of course, and everything that comes with it—Facebook, Twitter (微博). You can write your own list.

There's been a warning about the imminent death of literate civilization for a long time. In the 20th century, first it was the movies, then radio, then television that seemed to spell doom for the written world. None did. Reading survived; in fact it not only survived, it has flourished. The world is more literate than ever before—there are more and more readers, and more and more books.

The fact that we often get our reading material online today is not something we should worry over. The electronic and digital revolution of the last two decades has arguably shown the way forward for reading and for writing. Take the arrival of e-book readers as an example. Devices like Kindle make reading more convenient and are a lot more environmentally friendly than the traditional paper book.

As technology makes new ways of writing possible, new ways of reading are possible. Interconnectivity allows for the possibility of a reading experience that was barely imaginable before. Where traditional books had to make do with photographs and illustrations, and e-book can provide readers with an unlimited number of links: to texts, pictures, and videos. In the future, the way people write novels, history, and philosophy will resemble nothing seen in the past.

On the other hand, there is the danger of civilization. One twitter group is offering its followers single-sentence-long "digests" of the great novels. War and Peace in a sentence? You must be joking. We should fear the fragmentation of reading. There is the danger that the high-speed connectivity of the Internet will reduce our attention span—that we will be incapable of reading anything of length or which requires deep concentration.

In such a fast-changing world, in which reality seems to be remade each day, we need the ability to focus and understand what is happening to us. This has always been the function of literature and we should be careful not to let it disappear. Our society needs to be able to make sense of a dynamic, confusing world.

In the 15th century, Johannes Guttenberg's invention of the printing press in Europe had a huge impact on civilization. Once upon a time the physical book was a challenging thing. We should remember this before we assume that technology is out to destroy traditional culture.

Which of the following paragraphs briefly reviews the historical challenges for reading?

A.Paragraph One.

B.Paragraph Two.

C.Paragraph Three.

D.Paragraph Four.

仔细阅读:Interactive television advertising, which allows viewers to use their remote controls to click on

Passage One 2016年6月英语六级卷一试题

Interactive television advertising, which allows viewers to use their remote controls to click on advertisements, has been pushed for years. Nearly a decade ago it was predicted that viewers of "Friends", a popular situation comedy, would soon be able to purchase a sweater like Jennifer Aniston's with a few taps on their remote control. "it's been the year of interactive television advertising for the last ten or twelve years," says Collin Dixon of a digital-media consultancy.

So the news that Cablevision, an American cable company, was rolling out interactive advertisements to all its customers on October 6th was greeted with some skepticism. During commercials, an overlay will appear at the bottom of the screen, prompting viewers to press a button to request a free sample or order a catalogue. Cablevision hopes to allow customers to buy things with their remote controls early next year.

Television advertising could do with a boost. Spending fell by 10% in the first half of the year. The popularization of digital video recorders has caused advertisers to worry that their commercials will be skipped. Some are turning to the Internet, which is cheaper and offers concrete measurements like click-through rates-especially important at a time when marketing budgets are tight. With the launch of interactive advertising, "many of the dollars that went to the Internet will come back to the TV," says David Kline of Cablevision. Or so the industry hopes.

In theory, interactive advertising can engage viewers in a way that 30-second spot or not. Unilever recently ran an interactive campaign for its Axe deodorant(除臭剂), which kept viewers engaged for more than three minutes on average.

The amount spent on interactive advertising on television is still small. Magna, an advertising agency, reckons it will be worth about $138 million this year. That falls far short of the billions of dollars people once expected it to generate. But DirecTV, Comcast and Time Warner Cable have all invested in it. A new effort led by Canoe Ventures, a coalition of leading cable providers, aims to make interactive advertising available across America later this year. BrightLine iTV, which designs and sells interactive ads, says interest has argued: it expects its revenues almost to triple this year. BSkyB, Britain's biggest satellite-television service, already provides 9 million customers with interactive ads.

Yet there are doubts whether people watching television, a "lean back" medium, crave interaction. Click-through rates have been high so far (around3-4%, compared with less than 0.3% online), but that may be a result of the novelty. Interactive ads and viewers might not go well together.

airplanes, in airports and hotels. These laptops connect people to their work place. In the United States today, laptops also connect students to their classrooms.

West lake College in Virginia will start a laptop computer program that allows students to do school work anywhere they want. Within five years, each of the 1,500 students at the college will receive a laptop. The laptops are a part of a $10 million computer program at West lake, a 110-year-old college. The students with laptops will also have access to the Internet. In addition, they will be able to use e-mail to “speak”with their teachers, their classmates, and their families. However, the most important part of the laptop program is that students will be able to use computers without going to computer labs. W: yes, I have, Max.

M: Oh, sorry, but...can you tell me...what is your major again?

W: Sure. I major in computer science.

M: Why did you choose it? As far as I know, most gifts do not like that.

W: That's true, but not in my case. I am crazy about computers. Besides, computers are very popular and it will be easier td find a job after graduation and also computer-related jobs are well paid.

M: Yes, I agree. Information technology does have a very big effect on our lives. It allows us to store very large amounts of information, transmit a lot of information quickly and process a lot of information as soon as we receive it. But, don't you think the Arts are quite interesting and creative?

W: Yeah, I have nothing against the Arts. I just don't have talent in that area. Well, actually, many arts can be played, produced, and enjoyed through computers and the internet, for example, you can watch movies online and even receive TV programs from another country. Isn't that fantastic?

M: It sure is. It seems that fewer people nowadays can appreciate traditional and fine art.

W: I don't see anything wrong about that. Time is changing. Everything is developing. Why can't we have arts in a new way?

M: Reasonable. But I still prefer the good, old things.

W: Come on, Max. Don't you think it is much too expensive to study fine arts? And it is much less likely to be financially secure after graduation?

M: Yeah...but many people choose arts to study in spite of that.
