听力原文:M: Hi, Anna! Welcome back! How's your trip to the States?
W: Very busy. I had a lot of meetings, so, of course, I didn't have much time to see New York.
M: What a pity! Actually, I have a trip there myself next week.
W: De you? Then take my advice, do the well-being in the air program. It really works.
M: Oh, I read about that in a magazine. You say it works?
W: Yes, I did the program on the flight to the States, and when I arrived at New York, I didn't have any problem, no jet lag at all. On the way back, I didn't do it, and I felt terrible.
M: You're joking!
W: Not at all, it really meant a lot of difference.
M: Eh. So what did you do?
W: Well, I didn't drink, any alcohol or coffee, and I didn't eat any meat or rich food. I drink a lot of water, and fruit juice, and I ate the meals on the well-being menu. They're lighter. They have fish, vegetables, and noodles, for example, and I did some of the exercises in the program.
M: Exercises? On a plane?
W: Yes. I didn't do many, of course, there isn't much space on a plane
M: How many passengers do the exercises?
W: Not many.
M: Then how much champagne did they drink?
W: A lot! It was more popular than mineral water.

M: Well, you didn't expect it to be warm, did you?
W: Of course not, but I just heard the National Weather Service's prediction for the next 90 days. They said it's sup- posed to be much colder weather than usual.
M: Yeah, maybe. Personally, I think those long-range forecasts are useless.
W: Not as useless as you think.
M: Oh, come on, when you're talking about what's going to happen three months later, you might as well just pick a forecast out of our hat. W: Well, you are half-right. They aren't very good for the amount of rain. But they are a lot better for temperatures especially for this time of the year.
M: Really, so I should take them seriously about the cold but not count too much on a lot of extra snow?
W: Un-huh.
M: But what did you say about this time of the year? Do some seasons really give them more problems in making forecasts?
W: Autumn is the worst, apparently weather patterns change so much then, just think how variable our weather has been the last three months.
M: Come to think of it. That's true. It probably would have been hard to predict all those changes back in the summer. You know, you're beginning to convince me there is more to forecast than I thought. How come you know so much about it?
W: I get my information from an expert. My sister's a meteorologist.

听力原文:M: Ow!That hurts!
W: What happened? Did you cut yourself?.
M: Yes—on the edge of this paper. How can such a little cut hurt so much? I' m not even bleeding, but my finger really hurts.
W: You know, I read something about that. It turns out that a little cut on a finger can hurt a lot more than a big cut somewhere else.
M: Why? That doesn't make any sense.
W: Actually, it does. There are more nerve endings in your hands than almost anywhere else in the body, and it' s the nerve endings that allow you to feel pain.
M: I guess that' s true.
W: Also, a little cut like yours won' t damage the nerve endings, just irritate them. If they were damaged, you' d feel less pain, but the wound could be more serious.
M: So I suppose I should be happy my finger hurts so much?
W: Right. Now go get yourself bandage.
M: Why? You just told me it' s not serious.
W: It' s not, but it does seem to be bothering you. Putting a bandage over the cut will keep the skin from drying and will help keep the skin together. If the skin stays together, the nerve endings won' t be exposed, and the cut will hurt less.
(24)
A.How much the cut hurt.
B.How deep the cut was.
C.How easily he was cut.
D.How concerned the woman was.

W: No, I did not approve of suffragettes.
M: So you think in the long term...
W: In the long term, no harm was done. As long as their demonstrations were peaceful.
M: Do you think it would matter very much if women hadn't achieved the vote?
W: I don't think it would have made a great deal of difference, no, but there are certain things they've done—those been Members of Parliament—that have been very useful in helping women in their jobs, in other vocations. I think it's good that it happened. But I wish it happened a little bit more peacefully, perhaps.
M: What sort of things can you remember, what other sorts of demonstrations do you remember?
W: Marching, they were marching. But of course those were much more peaceful days, nobody interfered with their marches. There were a few boos here and there and a lot of clapping.
M: Did you, actually know any suffragettes yourself?
W: Well, my friends, my Close friends, were not suffragettes but I had one or two friends, not very close friends, that were. And we used to have great arguments and I used to say I didn't want the vote, I don't want to vote.
M: How did they react to that?
W: They said I ought to join the movement but I said no, I don't want to vote.
M: So you don't mind actually joining men in their world of work and sport but you're happy to leave politics to men.
W: No. I would rather really leave politics to men.
